On the 4th of August Tartu Art Museum opens an exhibition showcasing Martha Rosler’s video „If it’s too bad to be true, it could be DISINFORMATION“ in the museum’s project space. The exhibition will be open until the 10th of September.
In the work chosen for this exhibition, Rosler combines fragmented texts and images that convey a variety of messages relating to Cold War events playing out in the arena of Central America and the Caribbean, the principal one of which is connected to the Nicaraguan conflict. Through this, she refers to the deceptive and confusing presentation of the information imparted by US leaders and the media.
Rosler’s piece is in dialogue with the works of Peeter Allik, which are exhibited on the 1st and 2nd floors in the exhibition Cultivated Schizophrenia. Allik has also been using the questions of false information and deceptive structures — e.g. in the works Brainwashing Machine and I Saw That. State Secret — Fuck the People! Both artists’ works thus reveal misconceptions in society and invite the public to critically analyse their daily circumstances and channels of information.
The exhibition series Links to the world introduces video works of internationally acclaimed artists and puts them into a dialogue with local artists’ practice. This enables visitors to juxtapose different artists’ views on relevant issues in society.
