I wish to create a personal story that speaks of collective experiences. To induce a state within the viewer where no questions and answers exist; to reawaken in the person as many questions and answers as possible simultaneously.

/Kate Krolle/

In the exhibition “We hold our hearts”, Kate Krolle speaks about a phenomenon that cannot be explained in words but is nevertheless understood and felt by everyone – the faith that resides in each one of us and which we practise consciously or unconsciously in our everyday lives. Space, sound vibration, image, light, text – this is the language in which, by combining the results of experiments, mountain expeditions and research into mythology, the artist relates her personal, yet at the same time universal human experience. She confirms that submitting to the instinctively determined sense of life within us is a challenge that can provide fulfilment.

Kate Krolle (b. 1984) has a Master’s Degree from the Graphics Department of the Latvian Academy of Art. She works in different kinds of media – graphics, installation and video, and is interested in nature and how it is linked to human life, experiences and instincts. In 2010 she worked together with director Valters Sīlis to produce the show “Hypnotise me”. Krolle’s role in the project was not only as the author of the content and the arrangement of the space but also as an actress. In 2012, the creative tandem of Kate Krolle and Atis Jākobsons was nominated for the prestigious Purvītis prize for their video installation “The truth is simple” in the art festival “Survival Kit 4”. A year later in 2013, “Survival Kit 5” featured the performance “Gourmands” by Kate Krolle and Anete Vanaga. The artist is currently studying at Le Fresnoy National Studio of Contemporary Arts in France.
