A group of artists from different countries will gather for an international creative laboratory–camp, titled “Ecological robotics, biopolitics and creative practice”, organised by Vilnius Academy of Arts (VDA) in collaboration with Allenheads Contemporary Arts (ACA) and Institutio media, on 1–10 September 2017 in Nida Art Colony (Nida, Lithuania). This laboratory is a second event this year, following the successful Vilnius Academy of Arts’ project „Creature. Educational laboratory–camp exchange.” Participating artists will be offered an opportunity to research and create in a remote nature resort, whereas public lecture programme will invite everyone interested to join.
This new MigAA laboratory is an artistic attempt to actualize the idea of arts in relation to life and politics or, to be more precise, ‘biopolitics’. Throughout the ecological sciences technology is being used to collect data; what is this data for? What new interactions between machine and nature might emerge? And what the f*** is a creative practice? This project will reference the change from an Uexküllian idea of state functioning as an organism, to Hardt’s & Negri’s control concepts of life deployed through technologies.
“Ecological robotics, biopolitics and creative practice” will offer a programme of lectures and artist talks as well as public presentation of results. In his artist talk “Sacred Artists” Artūras Raila (VDA) will talk about the shift in understanding the value of the body, while lecture “Rhizomatic Biopolitics” by Mindaugas Gapševičius (Weimar Bauhaus University) and Theun Karelse (transdisciplinary laboratory FoAM) will attempt to bridge politics, technologies and aesthetics into interacting agencies. Alan Smith (ACA) will present his practice via project titled “DATA NO PROTECTION” and Hannes Brunner (Weisensee Academy of Art Berlin) will introduce to robot learning experience in “Like Toddlers so Robots”. The laboratory will make it possible for participants to collaborate with professional artists, curators, art critics, all contributing to an intense creative process. In parallel to public programme, expeditions, workshops, sessions of individual and collective work will take place.
Migrating Art Academies (MigAA) platform is aimed at innovation and experience-exchange in arts teaching and research. It is a network of European universities and independent organisations. “Ecological robotics, biopolitics and creative practice” event is organised by Vilnius Academy of Arts in collaboration with Allenheads Contemporary Arts and Institutio media, and is partly supported by Lithuanian Council for Culture as well as the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
