Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association presents a fourth workshop this season called „Interfacing the brain“ by Chris Hales, a London-based artist during his short-term residency in Lithuania. All welcome to register and take part.
This short workshop will allow participants to think up and potentially create functional prototypes of projects using a Neurosky Mindwave headset – a commercially available device that sends brain-signal data to a laptop. Parameters to be used are Meditation and Concentration.
The device might be used to control (via the laptop):
-a non-linear film or other imagery
-an audio-based piece
-physical movements of objects (using Arduino and servos)
-possibly other media or electronic items (including, for example, lighting) that are brought along by participants.
Examples of projects will be shown to participants as well as information about how to collect and use data from the headset. There will only be one headset but it might be possible to make up to three simple prototypes in the afternoon of the workshop. Ideas will be developed on the day, they will not be predetermined, although participants are welcome to bring idea proposals with them.

Participants should bring their own laptop, but it is not essential.
Chris Hales has created interactive cinema since the 1990s, using a variety of interface technology, sometimes designing interactive installations for a single audience member and sometimes live events for larger groups in a cinema/theatre environment. He is based in London but regularly teaches workshops in a variety of locations including at Vilnius College of Technologies and Design.
