Inter-format Symposium on Rites & Terrabytes at Nida Art Colony

This time the 8th Inter-format Symposium on 20th-24th of June at Nida Art Colony brings together over 50 artists, researchers, philosophers, scientists, ritualists, musicians and other kinds of practitioners to critically reflect on notions of indigenous culture today as well as reinvent traditional knowledges through Rites & Terrabytes. The time of shortest nights and longest days was intentionally chosen to let the participants of the programme to fully experience traditional rituals organized by the community of Neringa and guests.

‘Rites and Terrabytes’ refers to the peculiar situation where we increasingly feel or desire a connection with rituals and practices of old despite living in a profoundly mediated ‘post-contemporary’ world. In other words, to reconcile the imagined universes of archaic rites and the ubiquitous terabytes of digital information, we need some firm rooting and grounding (terra), whether in our surviving local indigenous culture or in some newly engineered indigeneity.

Symposium and the celebration of Rasos will be available in a distance as some of the events will be broadcasted online through Nida Art Colony „Facebook“ profile. By using 360-degree video technology the remote audience will be able to digitally submerge in the earthly rites.

Throughout the programme of the Symposium lectures will interweave with performances, presentations, concerts by musicians and sound artists, experiments with food and drinks, interactions with plants and the forest, and walks curated by artists.
