After a thorough consideration, a round of interviews and long discussions, the Jury, consisting of Lolita Jablonskienė (Director of the National Gallery of Art), Justė Jonutytė (Curator, Rupert), artist Deimantas Narkevičius, Juan de Nieves (Director of Rupert) and Inesa Pavlovskaitė (Co-founder of The Gardens) selected Rupert’s very first four residents for the August – October 2013 period:

TAMAR LATZMAN (b. 1978, Israel) works in the media of video installations and still photography. In her work, Latzman questions the construction of social memory and cultural stereotypes. While in Vilnius, she will develop a new project consisting of still and moving images entitled “Studies of a Garden – A Wandering Jew.”

ANIA MOLENDA (b. 1983, Wroclaw, Poland) is an architect, curator and researcher based in Rotterdam. During her residency in Vilnius, Ania will research the role of open form as a structural and conceptual tool for the creation of artifacts and the production of space. In her project she will explore the possibilities of cross-fertilization between the spatial practice and other disciplines that could offer novel perspectives for the culture of the city.

MARIONA MONCUNILL (b. 1984, Tarragona, Spain) is a visual artist currently based in Barcelona. While in Vilnius, she will research local social and cultural institutions, organizations and practices in order to analyze their specificities in relation to how they create and manage symbolic value, discourse and the codes and conventions. Her projects are mostly interventions that highlight characteristics of the context in which they are inserted in order to discuss, analyze and propose a critical look at them.

JURGIS PAŠKEVIČIUS (b. 1987, Vilnius, Lithuania) is an artist currently based in Vilnius and a recent graduate from M.A. studies at Sandberg Institute (Amsterdam). During the residency, Jurgis will continue the cycle of “Thinging” and will translate his writing practice into other mediums.

More news about resident-led workshops and updates on their projects will be published on Rupert’s website in mid-August.

Rupert now accepts applications for the second round of residencies (October – December, 2013) until 18 August:
