Meno parkasThe exhibition “Expanding Photography” focus on the using of photography as a starting point in artistic creation. To what extent is this medium a starting point for further processing, and how are photographic materials and photographic techniques used by contemporary artists? The question of the “claim to truth” of the photographic image and its social relevance in our viewing habits is raised again and again. The artist deals, inter alia, in particular with the suggestion of spatial depth within the photograph. The illusionistic three-dimensionality, which the actual flat medium creates so perfectly for the eyes, is questioned and partially exposed. The exhibition is not composed of pure photographs for the most part, but 16 artistic positions which reinterpret and alienate these images, as well as using photographic material and techniques and including these in other art forms. Here, a wide range of different approaches and ways of dealing with photography is shown, from purely photographic techniques, such as the photogram, up to the study of the reproduction mechanisms of the Internet. The visitor is invited to deal with his habits of perception and his own approach to photography, and to question these.
