Eglė Ridikaitė and “Cultural floor” goes to Klaipėda!
The painting exhibition „You Came, You Saw, You Left: Cultural Floor“ by Egle Ridikaite opening on Friday, 29 June, at 6 pm in KKKC Exposition Hall (2 Didzioji Vandens Str., Klaipeda).
The exhibition of contemporary painting, held in Vilnius from late 2016 to early 2017, arrives in Klaipeda supplemented with two new works, one of which, „2 Klaipeda str., Vilnius“, was especially created for this event.
When wandering through Vilnius, Egle Ridikaitė notices a beauty of this city, that is overlooked by many others, and immortalises it. The ‘floor-portraits’ are portraits of the city of Vilnius, which, according to the artist, always welcomes, comforts, surprises and astounds her. Ridikaitė’s artistic process raises these compositions from the ground, and reinterprets them on gallery walls, in all their immensity.
This cycle of 25 large scale artworks took the artist 4 years to complete.
Ridikaitė was awarded the Lithuanian Republic Government Art Award for this cycle of works as well as receiving the Mayor of Vilnius’ Award for depicting the beauty of Vilnius.
Since completing her painting studies at Vilnius Academy of Arts in 1997, this artist has enriched the Lithuanian art scene with various ambitious ideas. Artist organised 13 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 80 group exhibitions.
