The third edition of its EIB Institute’s Artists’ Development Programme (ADP), targeting two visual artists (aged less than 35) from Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Malta and Turkey is now open for application until 20 February 2015.
The programme provides an opportunity for two emerging visual artists to develop their practice at the highest level during a 4-6 weeks residency in Luxembourg in June/July 2015 by creating a new (body of) work(s) using photography, video, installations and/or new media. During this time, they will be mentored by a leading peer, internationally acclaimed British artist Darren Almond. The main objective of the programme is to help bring about the production of two independent innovative artistic projects.
Applicants should be under 35 years of age at the time of application and either be a national of Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Malta or Turkey or reside in one of these countries. They should be fluent in English.
A jury consisting of members of the EIB Institute Arts Committee, external arts professionals and the mentor will evaluate the applications and select the artists in residence. It bases its selection on their motivations, the quality of their work, and the applicants’ potential to use the residency to maximum benefit.
The EIB Institute will take over the two artists’ travel costs to and from Luxembourg. This includes a stopover to visit the mentor, Darren Almond, in London and experiencing the latter’s creative studio(s). The artists will also receive a stipend (EUR 100 per day each). At the end of the residency, the participants will receive a success fee of EUR 1,500 each, provided they have produced an artwork.
The artists participating in the programme will be provided a living/working space located in Centre Culturel de Rencontre Abbaye de Neumünster, situated in the culturally rich Grund district of Luxembourg City.
Upon completion of the residency, the EIB might consider acquiring the artwork(s), which was/were produced on site, from the artists.

Requirements
– CV (in English)
– Scanned copy of the passport, identity card of the applicant or other document evidencing legitimate residence in one of the eligible countries (in English)
– A letter of motivation/intent specifying personal drive and expectations for the programme (maximum 500 words, in English)
– Portfolio of visual documentation of several works best characterizing the art of the applicant (in PDF, four A4 pages maximum)
– Names and contacts of two professional referees, familiar with the art of the applicant
– A brief reference in the body of the email to how the applicant found out about the programme
Any application which does not comply with the set requirements will be automatically eliminated.
Deadline for application: 20 February at midnight (GMT+1).
Applications must be fully completed and submitted in due time in order to be considered.

About Darren Almond
Darren Almond (born in Wigan, 1971) is a leading British visual artist, whose practice encompasses sculpture, film, photography, and works on paper. He graduated from Winchester School of Art in Winchester (UK), with a B.F.A. in 1993. In 2005, Almond was a finalist for the Turner Prize. He has had one-person museum exhibitions at Tate Britain, London; the Kunsthalle Zürich; de Appel Centre for Contemporary Art, Amsterdam; The Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago; K21 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf; and SITE Santa Fe, among others. Almond also participated in the 2003 Venice Biennale.
