A personal light art exhibition “Bright Memories” of Karolis Vaivada will be opened at the KCCC Exhibition Hall (Didžioji Vandens str. 2, Klaipėda) on Friday, 21st of April 2017, at 5 PM.
Karolis Vaivada is an artist of the younger generation, a creator of interdisciplinary artistic expression, who decided to convey his creativity in a form of light art. After graduation from Vilnius Academy of Arts and obtaining a master’s degree in painting in 2012, he started participating in group exhibitions inVilniusandKaunas, and held several personal exhibitions. “Bright Memories” is his first personal exhibition inKlaipėdaand as to this day his largest artistic presentation.
The newest works of Karolis Vaivada are presented in the exhibition “Bright Memories”. Using abstract luminous compositions, where colourful light is being harmonised in a special way, he aims to create strong visual impact on the audience and lead to sensations which can be caused by light in nature, for example, sunset or bright summer day.
The idea of this exhibition is to talk about the memory and its states. Every human being has numerous memories causing various different feelings. Some of the memories naturally pop into our heads because of the experiences of that moment, some of them we try to refresh or forget. Probably many people have experienced a “déjà vu” phenomenon, when there is a sensation as if something we do or see has already happened before, even though it happens for the first time. A great number of tests and studies have been carried out in order to explain this phenomenon; however, there is no final version of explanation why and how it happens.
The theme of the exhibition “Bright Memories” of Karolis Vaivada is non-existent memories. The artist, seeking for a pure abstraction, uses light bearing features of ephemerality and impalpability in his works, and connects this light with also intangible phenomenon of memory. It is an attempt to compare the metaphysical nature of light with other phenomenon familiar to us though difficult to comprehend – “déjà vu”.
The exhibition will run until the 14th of May, 2017.
