Rezydencje-01Toruń Cultural Agency is pleased to invite foreign artists to participate in the annual Artist Residency Program, aiming to encourage creating projects in the field of cultural education and other artistic activities involving citizens.

Visual artists, dancers, musicians, writers, poets, literary translators and other creative souls are invited to submit an application and express their artistic potential in Poland. Since the Agency is willing to support artists already having a well-developed concept of their project, the duration of a Residency is no longer than two weeks.

The applicants are asked to submit the following:

  • CV,
  • Portfolio,
  • Link to the artist’s website,
  • Description of the future project (max. 2000 words),
  • References from 2 professional artists or critics,
  • Motivation letter.

Artistic Residences is a program dedicated to professional foreign artists who want to realize their artistic and cultural project in Toruń. The program’s aim is to create inspiring work conditions that will enable realization of exceptional works of art, design and literature. The program also aims to enable artists to gain new experiences and skills. Our program is dedicated especially to visual artists, designers, writers and poets. Artists will be selected on the basis of applications submitted via the electronic registration system.

As a result of the previous calls, the Czech artist Petr Dub and the Norwegian Hanne Haukom were the beneficiaries of the program. During his stay in Toruń, Petr organized an exhibition of his works “Anthropologist Translated” at the Wozownia Art Gallery in Toruń. The exhibition ended his series “The Artist as a Traveler”, which was a direct continuation of the themes discussed by two earlier years within the series “Artist as an Anthropologist”. By presenting a number of activities in which artists approached the anthropologists, it was difficult to ignore the fact that a large part of the projects shown was carried out in the way, and for many realizations the journey was a necessary precondition for existence. Hanne Haukom prepared an exhibition of artistic ceramics together with Toruń artist Dariusz Przewięźlikowski. The aim of the exhibition was the confrontation of two artistic attitudes. In her work she referred to the tradition of Norwegian pottery interpreted in a contemporary way. The opening of the exhibition took place in the Piwnica Gdańska Old Town Hall and was accompanied by the inauguration of the 6th International Painting Symposium, “Malownicza Barbarka”.

Participants will be invited to the open meetings, and each stay will be summarized and finished by public presentation of the work’s effect. Open call for projects takes place from 15 November to 15 December 2017.
