launches a new contemporary art exhibition season in the capital city this fall. The events – new exhibitions openings, meetings with artists, concerts and discussions – will be happening around town as well as on its outskirts from the 6th to the 9th of September in overall 26 different galleries and other artistic venues.
Organized by Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association for the third time, the gallery weekend will be drawing attention to the wide panorama of the contemporary art scene in Lithuania’s capital. One of the main aims of the event is to form a route of the most interesting artistic venues to visit, which would hopefully become an art-seeker’s habit after the weekend has ended.
This year the weekend’s events will happen not only in the central galleries, but also farther away to the East and the West of Vilnius. For the second time Lentvaris railway station building complex will be hosting a young artists exhibition designed particularly for the occasion. Meanwhile, “DIY Cultural Centre” (International music cultural centre) in Naujoji Vilnia district will be inviting the visitors to meet the organizers and see its spaces for the first time before the official opening later in fall.
Vilnius Gallery Weekend devotes a lot of attention to sound this year. Not only by including new artistic spaces designated for musicians and their pieces or organizing an exhibition in Composers’ House building, but also by inviting visitors into a discussion about making art sound louder and heard better. By asking about the ways of advertising contemporary art, its communication, the renowned and the less known artists, the event seeks to contemplate its own goals of popularizing contemporary art, its processes and its creators.
